Description:

Folio Weekly, Northeast Florida’s premier source for news, views, arts and entertainment, has an immediate opening for a staff writer. We’re looking for a journalist who understands the difference between the fact-finding grind of daily newspapers and the deep-dive reporting and narrative feature writing that make alternative newsweeklies special. Our ideal candidate has at least two years’ experience in a newsroom setting and clips that will blow our minds. A familiarity with the eccentricities and oddities and culture of Florida, especially our corner of it, is a plus.

We ask a lot — we expect you to be high-energy, source constantly, generate lots of story ideas, be a persistent menace to the powers that be, take some scalps, have a healthy respect for deadlines (and your editor’s sanity), blog like a freaking maniac and pitch in on our special issues — but we’ll also give you the freedom to practice the kind of journalism most reporters would kill for. This town has plenty of sacred cows that need slaughtering and muck that needs raking. Pay is competitive. Cost of living is low. Beaches are nearby.

Want to help us change the world? Send your resume, three to five of your absolute best clips and a cover letter explaining why we should look no further to editor Jeffrey C. Billman (jbillman@folioweekly.com). If we like what we see, we’ll be in touch. No phone calls, please.

When applying, mention that you saw this opening listed at JournalismJobs.com.
