The Anderson News has an opening for a full-time (40 hour per week) reporter/photographer. The weekly paper publishes each Wednesday, has a Wednesday TMC/shopper, and publishes numerous special sections. Lawrenceburg is located 15 miles west of Lexington off I-64. The Anderson News can also be found online at

The successful applicant will be a multi-talented writer, photographer and paginator/page designer who is dedicated to excelling at local coverage, identifying and producing enterprise stories, and contributing to special sections. Must be organized, deadline-conscious and a stickler for accuracy and fairness.


• Bachelor’s degree, journalism or related field preferred, or one or more year’s news writing experience for a weekly or multi-weekly newspaper • Experience with breaking news and government coverage a plus • Competency in photography, Photoshop, InDesign, and AP style • Be able to properly use digital camera • Knowledge and interest in Internet and new media • Be able to work some nights and weekends • Have reliable transportation to travel to assignments, a valid driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance

Essential Functions:

• Cover assigned beats and breaking news with timely stories and photos. • Take initiative to pursue news/feature/photo opportunities. • Contribute stories and photos for special sections of the paper. • Update the newspaper’s website. • Meet deadlines. • Serve as a positive liaison with the public and represent The Anderson News at community events. • Function effectively as member of news team.

This position reports to the Anderson News publisher.
