GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine, an award-winning publication of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, seeks an assistant editor. The assistant editor researches and writes articles for Alumni Association publications — including the quarterly Alumni Magazine, the monthly email newsletter BUZZwords and other internal publications — and assists the editor with proofreading all publications. Candidates must have previous newspaper or magazine writing experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Report and write timely articles on topics of interest to Georgia Tech alumni and the broader Georgia Tech community. Plan and conceptualize coverage for the Alumni Magazine. Coordinate the class notes and obituaries sections of the Alumni Magazine. Assist with editing all publications. Use basic html coding and blogging software to prepare online publications. Generate creative story ideas. Write knowledgeable but accessible articles on scientific and technological topics. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, English or similar field. Three to five years of experience writing and reporting at a newspaper or magazine. PREFERRED: Experience editing at a newspaper or magazine using AP Style. Experience with Adobe products such as Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat. Experience with basic html and blogging software. Experience writing about scientific and technological topics.
