Description:

Wall St. Cheat Sheet is looking for a full-time Assistant Editor to edit content for structural, informational, and syntactical errors while working with writers to improve formatting, visuals, angle, and prose. The candidate must have a strong grasp of the English language and a keen eye for detail. This job is for someone who is meticulous and takes great pride in his or her work. With a monthly audience of over 17 million unique visitors, your editing skills must be impeccable.

The Assistant Editor must have the skills to perform the following:

  • Work at a rapid pace to turn out multiple articles in an hour

  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with writers about their work

  • Manage a complex editorial board

  • Manage homepage layout

  • Work with various search engine optimization tools

Strong reading comprehension is essential, as is the ability to learn quickly and adapt to the varying and ever-changing demands of the job. To be a strong editor, you should be a strong writer as well. You must be able to recognize the important points of a story and help highlight those, as well as advise writers on how their work could be improved by additional information, charts, etc.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either writing or editing, whether through his/her studies, or in a professional capacity. English, journalism, and communications degrees are preferred, but all may apply. Applicants should have a strong grasp of proper grammar and punctuation (Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style, Lynne Truss’s Eats, Shoots & Leaves), and knowledge of AP Style is a plus. Some knowledge of HTML is also highly valuable, as it allows greater control over an article’s presentation. This job contains opportunities for advancement for those who take initiative and go above and beyond the basic requirements of the position.

Please apply ONLY if you meet the following requirements:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience

  • Excellent writing and copywriting skills

  • The ability to learn and adapt quickly

  • A strong work ethic and pride in personal reliability

  • Close attention to detail and the ability to multitask

  • A level of web proficiency - all work is done on various virtual platforms

  • A working knowledge of search-engine optimization is preferred, but not required
