Description:
The Associated Press seeks an aggressive reporter, editorand newsroom leader to serve as a breaking news staffer in Sioux Falls,S.D.  This is a temporary full-time position for nine months.

Responsibilities: Reportingto the News Editor, the breaking news staffer aggressively pursues spotbreaking news, sharing news among AP members and reporting stories about theDakotas from the Sioux Falls bureau. The BNS monitors news statewide and worksclosely with reporters in the field to coordinate coverage across multipleformats, helps communicate coverage plans, offers assistance to AP subscribersand collaborates with the regional editing desk in Chicago to produce storiesof state, national and global significance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Idealcandidates will have demonstrated experience in a professional newspaper,broadcast or online newsroom, with a demonstrated record of smart news judgmentleading to engaging stories. Candidates must have strong reporting, writing andediting skills, and a broad understanding of state, national and internationalnews perspectives.  Applicants should have a demonstrated aggressivenessin pursuing breaking news and success in collaborating and communicating withvarious levels of staff and customers.  A strong sense of competition isessential, as is the ability to work as part of a team with other editors andbureaus. The successful candidates should have at least two years of full-timereporting experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station or AP bureau.Other qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. * Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory. * Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. * Command of using social media and networking tools in newsgathering is a plus. * Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and meet deadlines. * Ability to recognize and develop newsworthy stories of global interest and work accurately under deadline pressure.
