Seeking features/entertainment writer
Location:
North Carolina
Job Status:  Full-time
Ad Expires:

Job ID: 1543562

Description:

The Fayetteville Observer is looking for a versatile and enthusiastic features writer to join our award-winning team of journalists. This position has a focus on entertainment, and the reporter will be our go-to person for covering concerts, festivals, art exhibits, nightlife and films as the lead reporter for Weekender, our weekly entertainment guide. Knowledge of music of all genres and experience with alternative storytelling is a plus.

But more than having a passion for pop culture, the right candidate will be a regular contributor to the front page and our metro section. We want someone who can generate a steady stream of fresh ideas and will have an eye for telling stories about our community. These stories could find a home in our metro section, daily Life section or the Sunday Life magazine.

We want a reporter who write with an engaging voice and is comfortable with alternative storytelling. We need a creative thinker who can breathe life into standard stories and can propose innovative ways to make stories translate online.

Our 50,000-circulation paper consistently wins statewide awards for enterprise reporting, writing, design and photography.  Independently owned, we’re located about an hour from Raleigh and an hour and a half from the coast.

Please send a resume, cover letter, clips that demonstrate range of writing styles and a list of five story ideas to Metro/Features Editor Jessica Banov at The Fayetteville Observer, P.O. Box 849, Fayetteville, NC 28306 or banovj@fayobserver.com. Put “Features Writer application” in the subject line.
