Description:
The Associated Press is seeking a Deputy Sports Editor to be based at its headquarters in New York City.

The editor reports to and works with the global sports editor to oversee a multi-million dollar budget and a talented worldwide staff responsible for breaking news, investigations and enterprise across all sports; logistics of the sports operation including filing of content and assignments; coverage of matches, games and sporting events around the planet, including MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL and FIFA. The deputy works closely with AP Sports customers, including ESPN, FOX, Yahoo and numerous newspapers and broadcast stations. The editor represents AP in the industry, including with AP Sports Editors.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates will have at least two years of management and leadership experience and a history of leading staff from afar. Must be innovative and creative. Must be a talented editor, capable of working with and coaching a diverse group of editors and reporters. Candidates must have a history of leading smart beat coverage, including investigative work and high-impact enterprise stories. Candidates must be savvy in the new media landscape, including a familiarity with social media and mobile, plus have an understanding of print and broadcast. The deputy sports editor must have a global view and be able to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The deputy sports editor must understand media customers in all formats. The ideal candidate will have experience making organizational changes within media companies. Above all, he or she must have a passion for sports coverage and to break news in sports in a competitive, fast-paced and challenging environment while continuing AP Sports' leadership in the industry.

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
