Description:

SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will be a proven on-air reporter. S/he will have outstanding writing and production skills and will be required to deliver high quality current affairs docu-mentaries.  S/he must be able to work with producers and camera and technical crews, as well as possess excellent people skills and be able to react swiftly and effectively to the program’s requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Initiate and research original story proposals for documentary, magazine or discussion programs.
  • Organize production of programs, lead the editorial development of story, booking contributors, and researching interviews
  • Report and Present programs in the field or the studio, hosting individual programs, interviews and discussion debates
  • Structure and script specially shot footage, archive material and graphics into exciting and informative programs, working closely with video editors.
  • Undertake PR activities connected with promoting Al Jazeera programs

EDUCATION:

  • An undergraduate degree is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in TV or related fields as reporter

SKILLS:

  • Presenting, directing and producing factual programs in the field and/or in the studio
  • Researching, and conducting interviews
  • Structuring long-form narratives
  • Scriptwriting

 KNOWLEDGE:

  • Wide knowledge of current affairs and news
  • Wide, up to date knowledge of documentaries, discussions or magazine shows
  • Knowledge of how to deal with hostile environments, including first aid
  • Knowledge of one or more languages other than English is desirable

  • Creative editorial thinking
  • Ability to generate original story ideas and
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to build relationships with people of different backgrounds quickly, often under stress
  • Ability to build and lead a small team
  • Initiative and resourcefulness
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with physical, emotional and mental stress
  • Ability to organize, analyze and synthesize information from many different sources
  • Discipline to deliver projects on time, on budget and to agreed plan
