This position, part of the UF Health Communications team, will be responsible for developing and implementing a cost-effective public relations strategy for the UF Department of Health Outcomes and Policy/Institute for Child Health Policy (HOP/ICHP) to raise awareness of its functions and of its value to the research community and the public. The person in this position is a strong and versatile writer and editor with excellent organizational and planning skills who will conceptualize, develop and produce content for a variety of print and electronic communications materials and coordinate awareness activities and events for internal and external audiences. Duties will include conducting research to determine the most effective ways to communicate with stakeholders, developing content for Web outreach, writing research news releases, conducting media training for faculty, assisting the department leadership in editorial decisions regarding content to present a unified message and helping to develop lecture series, workshops, and outreach events.


  1. Writes science news releases and articles for UF Health Communications, including materials for The POST, single-issue publications such as special reports or informational brochures, and radio scripts for a consumer health program that airs nationally on public radio. Produces text, video, audio and other multimedia content for various websites. Maintains relationships with faculty and staff and other internal constituents to determine when newsworthy research will be published or presented. Applies Associated Press style to all news writing. This position supports the Institute on Aging through the development and implementation of an annual strategic communications plan, including writing of two newsletters and an annual progress report, as well as news releases and other communications pieces as needed.

  2. Provides strategic communications support to the UF Department of Health Outcomes and Policy/Institute for Child Health Policy (HOP/ICHP)

  3. Scouts and pitches story ideas to news media; escorts news media during on-site visits and responds to media requests. Handles requests for faculty experts to comment on stories in an expeditious manner.

  4. Edits news releases and publications with the central communications team. Works with photographer, videographer and graphic designer as needed.

  5. Communications, marketing, and public relations-related planning and support, including occasional event planning and assistance with special projects.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience

Starting salary range is $48,000 to $58,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience
