Description:

The communications director is responsible for developing and driving communications strategies that directly contribute to the promotion, enhancement and protection of Regis University’s reputation. As a member of the marketing and communications leadership team, s/he works closely with the CMO to raise the visibility of the University and strengthen the institution’s core narratives, key messaging and brand ideals with key stakeholders. S/He also works closely with an in-house agency team to foster the integration of strategic brand and marketing initiatives into the day-to-day communications functions. This position reports to the chief marketing officer.

 

Responsibilities

·        Operations

 

-        Oversee the day-to-day development and management of the communications functions and activities including print publications and digital communications.

 

-        Develop an annual work plan and budget to lead the planning and implementation of all communication activities to achieve strategic initiatives and organizational objectives.

 

-        Craft and drive strategic messaging to be leveraged consistently across all marketing and communications vehicles and on-target collaterals (media, interactive and print).

 

-        Develop an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the University’s brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs and priorities.

 

-        Provide thought leadership to University leadership on emerging trends, issues and opportunities.

 

-        Lead external and internal communications functions to proactivelyinform key constituents and the public of the University's initiatives, successes and progress.

 

-        Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials as needed.

 

-        Collaborate with subject matter experts (faculty, staff and students) to identify, influence and communicate timely thought leadership, issues management and advocacy engagement that support the University’s perception objectives.

 

-        Identify and build outreach programs with key community and influencer organizations to advance the mission and strategic goals of the University.

 

-        Anticipate policy, regulatory and legislative developments on higher education as it relates to the University’s strategic goals and interests.

 

-        Serve as University spokesperson to media, community and campus audiences (as designated).

 

·        Leadership

 

-        Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to positively advance the University’s visibility, enhance its reputation across key stakeholder audiences and broaden awareness of its brand marketing priorities/programs.

 

-        Serve as point person to lead, direct and coordinate issues management and crisis communications.

 

-        Monitor and identify challenges and emerging issues facing the University and define timely strategies to address them.

 

-        Provide strategic reputation management counsel to University leadership teams.

 

·        Management

 

-        Manage a communications team to support the development and execution of communications strategies.

 

-        Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

 

-        Supervise, coach and motivate direct reports on their respective job responsibilities with a focus on growing their knowledge, skill sets and expertise.

 

-        Conduct timely metrics assessments of the department’s programs, activities and deliverables.

 

-        Manage and track team budget.

 

Qualifications

·        Bachelor's degree in a related professional area (communications, journalism, marketing or related field). A master’s or higher degree is preferred.

 

·        6-8 years of work experience in a senior management role.

 

·        Decisive, results-focused and driven to excellence.

 

·        Proven track record in developing, implementing and supporting integrated strategic communications and marketing plans and initiatives.

 

·        Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic communications to advance an organization's mission and goals.
