The Indianapolis Star is seeking a data journalist/developer to work closely with its digital design and development team as well as its Star Watch investigative team and other reporters. This person will not only analyze data for investigative projects but also will assist in innovating new ways to visualize data for our digital audience. This person must be able to quickly sort through extensive data, propose stand-alone databases and develop interactive projects. The data journalist/developer should have three to five years of journalism experience or hold a degree in journalism. The following skills are required:

 

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and MySQL. Comfortable working in Access, Google Fusion Tables and Tableau.

Experience in ArcView or other types of geospacial mapping.

Proficiency in HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery and PHP. Ability to program in Python or Django a plus.

Understanding of digital production, social media and digital presentation.
