Description:

The Wisconsin State Journal, a recent Pulitzer Prize finalist and second-largest newspaper in the state, is seeking an energetic, organized and experienced senior editor to lead a talented newsroom at night and on the weekends.

This is an important, challenging and rewarding position in our organization. The person selected will supervise print and digital production of news, sports and features at night. The right candidate must be able to manage a heavy workload and more than a dozen full-time staff members on our universal copy desk. The role also includes being a key point of communication in dealing with our city editor, sports editor, features editor, digital director and the Regional Design Center. Most importantly, though, this person must understand how to put our audience first, even when it means making tough news decisions late into the night in print and online.

It’s not all work in Madison, of course. We’re home to a Big Ten school, the University of Wisconsin, and its top-notch athletic department, so there are major sports venues and a vibrant downtown scene with arts and entertainment. We’re one of the most active communities in the nation, playing host to a popular full Ironman event, several full and half marathons and an endless amount of opportunity to spend time outdoors hiking and cycling on beautiful trails and swimming or boating on lakes inside the city limits. Madison has many of the amenities of a metropolitan city but, at the same time, also enjoys a smaller-town, community feel.

If you think you’re ready to lead a team of savvy editors and production experts, and you have at least three years of newsroom management experience, we’d love to hear from you. Apply at http://jobs.capitalnewspapers.com. Deadline to apply is 11/1.
