Description:

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), a project of the Center for Public Integrity, seeks an experienced digital journalist to shape the organization’s digital strategy and produce daily stories and multi-part investigative projects on its websites and other digital platforms. The Online Editor determines packaging and presentation, including assigning multimedia and interactive graphics, and coordinating the many parts of a project from conception to publication and beyond. This position owns the production schedule for the editorial calendar and helps distribute ICIJ’s journalism to the widest possible audience.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Assign and oversee graphics, artwork, and multimedia; and possibly create original content
  • Work with the News Developer to assign new interactives
  • Drive the production schedule for the editorial calendar to ensure projects receive the best possible presentation treatment
  • Commission posts for ICIJ’s Global Muckraker blog
  • Work with the Engagement Editor to build specific communities via our social channels and beyond
  • Edit and update the ICIJ.org homepage and project pages
  • Write headlines and story summary copy
  • Provide final copy edit before publication
  • Add related material to stories
  • Select and edit photos and partner content

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least three years’ experience packaging content and contributing to social media for a news organization
  • A proven track record in translating longform journalism for digital consumption
  • Highly proficient in web-based publishing tools and technologies
  • Excellent copy editing, headline-writing, and SEO best practices
  • Adept at content marketing
  • Proficient in Photoshop, AP Style, social media tools and analytics tools
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, and passionate about investigative reporting
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
