CQ Roll Call is seeking a Chief content officer to lead a transformation in the direction and quality of all its editorial output. With fundamental change in our market, we need a leader that can move us to the world we envision. This will require the ability to build positive moral and creative momentum through setting a vision for the future of governmental news and ensuring each employee understands their job, how it contributes to the company strategy, and how their performance contributes to the mission.

At the heart of the change in our market is a battle for mindshare - we must win that battle. Through writing, editing, packaging, design, and a deep understanding of our usage statistics, the editor must improve the measurable level of readership, usage and engagement across our products.

The ideal candidate must ensure the accuracy, objectivity, timeliness, relevance and impact of all CQ Roll Call journalism, by communicating and enforcing standards and expectations to staff. Articulate a clear vision for the mission, voice and standards for each publication.  Determine, along with the Managing Director, annual salary and expense budget levels and ongoing forecasts.

The Chief content officer will be responsible for leading the effort to define the future of our news products, in collaboration with business stakeholders.  In addition, we are expanding in Legal News - the Chief content officer must lead efforts to capitalize on this opportunity. Ensure the efficient, high-quality production and delivery of all our publishing products in print and online, including maintaining the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of original content, government data and third-party data. Ensure that Editorial remains free of influence from advertisers, sponsors and others on whom CQ Roll Call depends for revenue. Advise the Managing Director and consult with the senior leadership team on corporate strategic decisions, company policies and other matters of interest to CQ-Roll Call Group at large. Essential skills and capabilities include: master in journalism or equivalent work experience; management training; reporter and editor for major national publication; management experience at a department level; experience creating and launching new product; business experience (business development, content partnerships, etc.); reporting and editing skills; management of large teams; high-level editorial decision-making skills; knowledge of major trends in news consumption; ability to drive audience , growth through metrics; and, familiarity with government data.
