Reports To: Manager of Membership & Marketing

 

The role of interns in the marketing department is to engage with all groups to learn about marketing, CRM, membership, web, social media and communications. The internship will be offered each semester (3 times/year) and will focus on marketing for NAA and the American Press Institute. All interns can expect to have real-world experiences and end the internship with a strong portfolio. The NAA marketing department will work with internship departments to develop projects specific to curriculum.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing plans for all NAA initiatives including events, breaking news messaging, social media development
  • All interns are encouraged to share ideas and actively participate in the marketing initiatives
  • Assist department in general office management

CRM

  • Assist in keeping the NAA database current
  • Implement communication plans with our members
  • Learn the process to distribute messages to NAA members
  • Work to develop ideas on growing our database for NAA registered members and API members

Event Support

  • Participate in planning and meetings regarding the NAA annual meeting, mediaXchange (Spring interns may be invited to attend the annual meeting)

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a college/university and studying marketing, communications or business
  • Some travel opportunities may exist (spring)
  • Applicant must have outstanding leadership, communications, interpersonal and customer service skills. They must be a self-motivator and innovator to help move the mission of NAA and the industry

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hours: The membership & marketing intern will be expected to work approximately 16-20 hours per week, which may be spread across three days. Our office is located in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, Va., which is accessible via public transportation (buses and Metro Orange Line).

Compensation: $15/hour

Credit: Internships may be taken for credit (in addition to compensation), and NAA will work with university internship programs to develop projects that meet specific curriculum requirements.
