Description:

The Hanford Sentinel is seeking a Managing Editor to ensure that Lee Central California Newspapers and hanfordsentinel.com are the premiere providers of local news and information in our market.  The Editor will lead the newsroom team of 19 including six direct reports. Uphold the highest levels of journalistic ethics and protect the First Amendment Rights of the news media. Vigorously maintain our role as the watchdog of government as a key to a free society. Ensure that our products are full of news and information that our readers value and the news content is balanced and fair. Requirements

  • Maintain full responsibility for the content of the newspaper in print and online.
  • Oversee completion of pagination for The Hanford Sentinel and support pagination of the Lemoore Navy News, Selma Enterprise and Kingsburg Recorder.
  • Be the lead member of the Editorial Board that reports to the Publisher.
  • Work with the Publisher to conduct research as to content and readers/viewers passion topics.
  • Lead Digital First initiative and conduct staff training.
  • Drive social media through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and conduct staff training.
  • Represent The Sentinel at local functions and form working relationships with local government agencies and community groups.
  • Continually develop staff to improve each member’s leadership abilities, journalistic expertise, and overall productivity.
  • Hire qualified staff; recruit in a manner that maximizes diversity; ensure new hires have a written training/development plan.
  • Prepare and manage the annual newsroom financial budget.
  • Prepares monthly department activity recaps.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism Preferred.
  • 5 years experience as an editor managing staff of 5 or more.
