Overview:

MassLive.com seeks a full-time Sports Producer to help build and grow our Massachusetts high school sports coverage. The Sports Producer will oversee a team of high school reporters, while also contributing original content, and generating new coverage ideas that incorporate multimedia and reader engagement. The Sports Producer will embrace new technology and be responsible for developing best practices for live event coverage. Other responsibilities including developing a long-term audience growth strategy and maintaining sports-related social media accounts. Candidates will work as part of a dynamic, team-oriented website and newspaper staff to maximize audience growth. The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with excellent critical thinking skills.

A flexible schedule and night/weekend work is required.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • General web page maintenance and updates for 24/7 news organization.
  • Original reporting: Writing, editing and packaging digital content.
  • Copy editing/AP style.
  • Social media: Active presence on Twitter, Facebook and MassLive community pages.
  • Manage events such Friday Football scoreboard & live chats.
  • Track metrics and provide recommendations for audience growth initiatives.
  • Serve as point person with Advance Digital Community team.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Education background in journalism or communications is highly preferred.
  • Applicants should have 1-3 years professional experience writing, producing and packaging digital content.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Strong writer; familiarity with AP Style
  • Proficient using video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, or similar;
  • Early adopter of new technologies, new processes and best practices for creating and maintaining digital content to grow audience;
  • Results driven, with experience in a deadline-oriented environment;
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills; and
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with some weekend work included.
