This position offers you the opportunity to play a key role in increasing audience engagement and growing readership by driving compelling conversations and "real time" reactions to hot topics. In this hands-on role you will be charged with moderating and engaging the news, politics and entertainment communities that exist on the website; encouraging them to upload photos and videos and increase the commenting within stories. We're building a team of "A" players -- like you -- within a nimble and progressive company with a fun, upbeat culture. As we grow we'll be looking for strong performers to move into leadership roles. If you're a true "people person" who enjoys immersing yourself in the local community and working in a fast paced environment, this is your opportunity to engage with our readers everyday and be directly involved with creating and steering the conversation around a variety of topics.

To be a good fit for the the Community Engagement Specialist / Producer opportunity, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience with online community engagement and a demonstrated ability to build, maintain and engage an active audience.
  • Journalism experience and a solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure.
  • Experience working directly with the public.
  • Strong news judgment skills, including the ability to respond to breaking events in a timely manner and an understanding of the topics that draw the most audience interest.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage members of the community and make genuine connections.
  • Familiarity with audience engagement metrics across platforms (Omniture, Facebook engagement stats, etc.) and an ability to translate them into actionable data.
  • The ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.
