The Freight Market Reporter will report directly to the Editor.

Position Summary
Shipping is the backbone of commodity markets, accounting for almost all international trade. Companies that need to hire a ship compete for vessels in a bustling spot market, populated by shipowners, brokers, oil majors and traders. Argus Media’s clients need to know what freight markets are doing, and why prices are changing.

The Freight reporting position at Argus entails assessing seaborne transportation costs and analyzing tanker and bulk markets. The reporter will write news about shipowners and freight markets, including infrastructure developments, rate moves, company earnings and people moves. The reporter will also track and analyze US refined product exports, and should be able to back up coverage of other markets as needed. The role will involve attending industry events to gather news and network with contacts.

The Candidate

Education
College degree required.  Advanced degree a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Analytical mind
  • Strong reporting and writing skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks on a tight daily deadline
  • Experience covering freight markets is a plus
