The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Candidates should be senior scholars, or journalism or strategic communication professionals with a distinguished record of leadership and achievement.  They should possess knowledge of the journalism and strategic communication professions and the critical issues surrounding them, the vision to recognize and react to the challenges and opportunities emerging in a rapidly changing media landscape, the ability to envision synergies with all areas of communication, a desire to engage with faculty and staff as part of a team, an ability to work with professional and academic constituencies and a strong commitment to leading an academic unit dedicated to scholarly and professional missions.  The successful candidate should have experience in, or be willing to actively participate in, alumni and donor engagement programs that include, but are not limited to, outreach events and development activities (e.g., personal calls) to solicit private gifts.  The successful candidate should have the capacity to help build and nurture a creative educational environment that fosters quality teaching and research.  Candidates will have demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.  A PhD is preferred, but exceptional professional experience will also be considered.
