INVISION, a brand-new magazine from SmartWork Media for American eyecare professionals, is looking for an editor-in-chief.
We’re a growing group doing exciting work –- in fact, our flagship magazine INSTORE won a Neal Award from America Business Media in 2011 as the world's best business-to-business magazine in our revenue category. And we've won more than 50 other national and international awards in our decade-plus of existence.
Now we’re looking for a talented, visionary editor and writer to become the voice and face of our new publication. We're looking for somebody ready to take ownership, ready to leave a mark, somebody whose response to a new project is not “Oh, no!” but “Oh, boy!” (If you’re one of those people, we think deep inside you know it.)
As an editor, your biggest challenge will be to get inside the heads of our readers –- 40,000 optometrists, opticians, and other eyecare professionals looking to serve better and sell more to patients and customers. Start by asking yourself, “If I ran an eyecare business, what would I really want to know each month?” (The answer usually doesn’t require a master’s degree in business -- just clear thinking and common sense.)
As a writer, you’ve moved beyond the 5 W’s and the inverted pyramid and are ready to present valuable, actionable information to readers in an interesting, entertaining (and yep, sometimes even funny) manner. You can find a way to add life to copy that is typically mundane – product descriptions, report summaries, press releases. In short, you don’t think that business magazines have to be boring — and the idea of bringing excitement and a fresh attitude to such a traditionally conservative publishing medium makes you feel all tingly inside.
Location: Wherever you are. (Though we have do offices in New York, Chicago and Bangkok, Thailand if you prefer an office environment.)
How to get the job: Write us an email entitled “Hey, I Want a Job With INVISION!” Introduce yourself. Show off a little. Tell us a little bit about your favorite magazines and what you love about magazine publishing. Attach clips or send links to a website featuring some of your work. (Hint, hint: we're huge believers in first impressions.)
