Seeking versatile writer/editor for Houston-based oil and gas magazine. Candidate must be highly meticulous, self-motivated, organized and flexible. Must possess strong news writing, copyediting, proofreading and computer skills. Primary tasks are writing/copyediting/proofreading articles for print magazine and its associated multimedia news platforms, as well as conducting on-camera video interviews. Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign. Familiarity with other Adobe Creative Suite software and WordPress a plus. Multitasking will be required to meet strict deadlines. Applicant must complete writing test to be considered.
Key Tasks:

  • Writing news, technical and feature articles for print magazine, website and electronic newsletters on oil and gas topics; includes research and conducting interviews
  • Copyediting highly technical articles
  • Conducting on-camera interviews for website videos; videography skills a plus
  • Some layout will be required
  • Reporting from key oil and gas industry conferences; some travel required
  • Web posting using WordPress
  • Engaging readers on social media

Required skills:

  • Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Basic layout skills using Adobe Indesign
  • Strong sense of news
  • Familiar with WordPress and social media platforms
  • Comfortable on-camera presence

Additional skills:

  • Familiarity with AP style
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premier and HTML
  • Interest in technical subjects
