Multimedia Production Resident

The Multimedia Programme
The Economist magazine is pleased to offer a multimedia “residency” in our Washington DC bureau. The residency will start at the end of September and run until April.

The multimedia resident will help produce audio and video programs for The Economist website.
The position is full-time and pays $3000 per month. This is in no way a coffee fetching, paper-filing job: residents are treated as members of the multimedia staff. You will be responsible for all of the multimedia content that is created in the DC office. You must be comfortable setting up video shoots, editing pieces from story idea to completion, and working without direct supervision.

You will have creative input and work on challenging projects, book guests, edit and pitch ideas for shows, as well help with day-to-day work. You will get the chance to create completely new shows, and to shape the look and feel of The Economist multimedia content. You will work closely with other Economist journalists to create multimedia pieces.

 Applicants should be aware that this position is time-limited, rooted in multimedia and is not an entre into print reporting at The Economist.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to manage audio and video recordings independently
• Rock-solid Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools digital audio and video editing (If you are an Avid editor, you should know how to make the transition to Final Cut)
• Strong video production skills including shooting, script writing, producing and editing
• Excellent writing and copy-editing skills with strict attention to detail
• Strong editorial and news judgment
• Ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision
• Ability to commit to a regular weekly schedule
• Highly professional manner and the ability to collaborate with correspondents in different departments and countries
