The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Manager, Industry Affairs for its Plastics division.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

This position will work with staff and Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) member companies to manage and oversee the development and implementation of strategies and programs that advance positive positions for polyurethane markets.  The position is responsible for interfacing with CPI members, ACC staff, key downstream trade associations and their members, and polyurethane industry customers, as well as building strategic relationships with customer groups both domestically and internationally.  The position reports directly to the Senior Director, CPI.

Other key duties and responsibilities of the position include managing the development and execution of programs to promote industry interests in key polyurethane markets, and advocating CPI positions within appropriate venues including legislators, regulatory agencies, codes and standards organizations, public interest groups, and the media; monitoring emerging issues and developing suggested strategies to address these issues; developing, recommending and implementing approved strategies designed to advocate the goals and objectives of the market-focused issue management groups, communications, and conference programs; and leading the development and execution of the CPI annual conference and managing the various on-line tools and websites maintained by CPI.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a communications, marketing or media field, Master’s degree preferred; three to five years industry affairs, trade association, corporate communications or similar experience, knowledge of the polyurethane industry preferred; experience managing projects and teams using consensus-building skills to identify common ground when a variety of viewpoints are presented; familiarity with trade association and government processes, knowledge of website management and social media and how a public affairs agency functions preferred; excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and ability to travel within the United States and internationally, as needed.
