The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University announces an opening for a Director of Communications.  The College seeks an experienced professional to lead and coordinate the development and execution of comprehensive communications and marketing strategies for The College and focus on highlighting and increasing its visibility, profile, and reputation to potential students, alumni, parents, donors, employers, partners, and supporters.

The Director of Communications will protect, enhance and reinforce the College narrative and brand; design and implement a college-wide marketing strategy and promote  the College for alumni, faculty, staff and students, other stake holders in geographies of opportunity, local and regional communities, through writing and distributing articles, press releases and calendar listings and social media.

In addition, the Director will serve as Executive Editor of Arts and Sciences magazine, identify story angles for the College, academic departments and interdisciplinary programs; foster/maintain relationships with editors for print, digital, and social mediums, oversee the short and long-range budget planning, financial monitoring and expenditures for the Communications Department and lead and supervise the communications team.

The successful candidate will possess expert knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures in the field of communications, brand marketing, marketing and social media, in order to help profile the College, find and promote news and information channels and engage internal and external audiences through a variety of media; possess a strong grasp of social media trends in order to develop and execute a College-wide social media strategic plan, and monitor and evaluate the College's presence in social media. Requires strong leadership, management and people skills and the ability to work with faculty, staff and students.

 Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in newspaper, magazine, web-editing and social media; skilled editor with research, story development, content editing and copy editing experience; educational qualifications and extensive background in higher education preferred; superb command of AP style, grammar and syntax.
