Research Assistant – NYC

YouGov is expanding our New York editorial team. As part of a plan to provide a more immersive user experience, we are developing new ways of conducting and presenting opinion research.

On our team, you will on a daily basis assist our US Assistant Editor in curating and maintaining our groundbreaking opinion system, which aims to allow users to express their views on every topic under the sun. Furthermore you will help determine which are the hot topics of the day and how YouGov can contribute to the media debate through opinion research. You will be working closely with the main Editor and also the US Assistant Editor on most aspects of the website, helping to shape the future of YouGov’s new opinion research system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge organization: Manage crowd-sourced information, identifying how niche topics and subjects fit into a broader understanding of what people think
  • Research: Be able to sift through large amounts of statistical data to find a compelling and eye-catching story
  • Moderating: Actively manage a large internet community to foster positive debate and encourage people to share their opinions
  • Content management: Write and edit articles in a content management system, as well as be comfortable with image editing
  • Awareness of current events: Be up-to-date on the latest news and have a good understanding of what sort of stories dominate news cycles
  • Information technology: Regularly use back-end computer systems

Skills Required

  • Good Excel skills and knowledge of image editing software
  • Sharp writing skills and the ability to adapt style to context
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined enough to occasionally work with little supervision
  • Knowledge of graphic design or web design (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)  a major plus

Education & Experience

  • Have at least B.A. or B.S.
  • Demonstrated interest in current affairs
  • Web design, programming and/or data analysis experience desired but not essential

Pay & Terms

  • Six month assessment period
  • 40 hours per week
  • $600 per week
  • Potential for full staff position to follow
