The Winona Daily News in southeast Minnesota has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter.
We're an award-winning small daily with a big heart that plays well above its level in covering local and regional issues and cares deeply about our commitment to community journalism. We're looking for a reporter and storyteller who's both aggressive and sensitive, who never shies away from the hard story while never failing to see the humanity in every story. Even the meeting stories. Or at least sometimes the meeting stories.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable with a range of reporting, from data-based investigative pieces to deeply sourced narrative features. They should have experience with digital-first reporting and using online platforms to break news and tell stories using alternative forms and multimedia. They should also be comfortable interacting with readers and promoting the paper's work using social media platforms.
Most importantly, they should be ready to tell stories in new ways. Especially the meeting stories.
We know you're also looking for quality of life, and you'd be hard-pressed to find better elsewhere. Winona offers a vibrant mix of arts and culture, including nationally renowned Shakespeare and classical music festivals and one of the largest regional music festivals. Then there's the ability to get outdoors, to hike the rolling bluffs, canoe the Mississippi backwaters, ride world-class mountain bike trails.
We're looking for someone with a minimum of two years of experience in journalism and communications, though recent college graduates are also welcome to apply. The Daily News is a Lee Enterprises paper and offers competitive salary and benefits. Email a resume, cover letter and 3-5 clips to Editor Brian Voerding at email@example.com, or mail to 902 E. Second St., Winona MN 55987.
