Description:

The Daily Union in Junction City, a 3-day print publication and 7-day web product, is seeking a news editor to partner with the managing editor as a key resource to enable us to take our news operation to the next level and beyond.

You would collaborate with the managing editor and reporting staff on a daily basis for both print and online news coverage.

We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated and competitive person who has the reporting experience, solid news judgment, interest and drive to learn how to perform the day-to-day work and serve as a backup to the managing editor.

The candidate we seek would preferably have experience to include page layout and design, copy editing, coaching reporters, reporting/writing, photography and the ability to keep a “daily” focus on website and social media efforts.

We are willing to train, but prefer a candidate with the skills and knowledge in InDesign and Photoshop and be quick to learn and understand content management systems, website management systems and social media technologies.

At least three years at a weekly or daily newspaper is desired and some management experience is preferred.

Junction City is a community made up of 23,000 residents and is at the door of Fort Riley in Kansas' beautiful north-central Flint Hills. The Daily Union offers a competitive compensation package including medical/dental insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation and 401(k).

Please email resume, three writing samples, two page design examples and salary requirements to managing editor Lisa Seiser at m.editor@thedailyunion.net.
