Editorial Trainee – NYC

YouGov is expanding our New York editorial team. As part of a plan to provide a more immersive user experience, we are developing new ways of conducting and presenting opinion research.

On our team, you will on a daily basis figure out which questions need to be asked to the public and write articles and reports on short and long term research. You will also be tasked with curating and maintaining our ground-breaking opinion system, which aims to allow users to express their views on every topic under the sun.

Key Responsibilities

  • Awareness of current events: Be up-to-date on the latest news and have a good understanding of what sort of stories dominate news cycles
  • Research: Be able to sift through large amounts of statistical data to find a compelling and eye-catching story
  • Moderating: Actively manage a large internet community to foster positive debate and encourage people to share their opinions
  • Content management: Write and edit articles in a content management system, as well as be comfortable with image editing
  • Knowledge organization: Manage crowd-sourced information, identifying how niche topics and subjects fit into a broader understanding of what people think
  • Information technology: Regularly use back-end computer systems

Skills Required

  • Good Excel skills and knowledge of image editing software
  • Sharp writing skills and the ability to adapt style to context
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined enough to occasionally work with little supervision
  • Knowledge of graphic design or web design (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)  a major plus

Education & Experience

  • Have at least B.A. or B.S.
  • Demonstrated interest in current affairs
  • Journalism, web design, programming or data analysis experience highly desirable

Pay & Terms

  • Six months, 9am to 6pm
  • Up to $480 per week stipend
  • Potential for full staff position to follow
