Seeking watchdog reporter
Job Status:  Full-time
Ad Expires:
August 19, 2013
Job ID: 1511303

The Faribault Daily News and Northfield News are looking for an education watchdog. We won’t settle for the ordinary. We need a reporter who’s equally comfortable crafting compelling tales and analyzing documents.

The Daily News is a 6,000 circulation, award-winning six-day daily an hour south of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and the News is an award-winning twice weekly, 5,000 circulation paper in the same county. This position would cover education and county government in both communities.

The successful applicant will have insatiable curiosity, an excellent grasp of open records/meeting law and a demonstrated knowledge of how multimedia enhances reporting.

Special consideration will be given to candidates who are fluent in Spanish and who have experience using social media.

Reporters who thrive on reactive, institutional stories need not apply.

We are a family-owned cluster of 16 publications, eight community websites and Facebook pages and a regional magazine. All are aggressive, watchdog-oriented papers with newsrooms full of talent. Besides the Twin Cities, Faribault and Northfield are within one hour of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Rochester and the Mayo Clinic, Mall of America, eight state parks and more than 100 recreational lakes and other top attractions. Benefits include health care, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, a flexible spending plan, vacation and 401k. Send your resume, your plan to use social media in your reporting and no more than five of your best clips to Jaci Smith, Managing Editor, Faribault Daily News, 514 Central Ave., Faribault, MN 55021. E-mail it to No phone calls, please. The Daily News is an equal opportunity employer.
