The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is an individual membership professional organization representing more than 85,000 member physical therapists (PTs), physical therapist assistants (PTAs), and students of physical therapy. APTA seeks to improve the health and quality of life of individuals in society by advancing physical therapist practice, education, and research, and by increasing the awareness and understanding of physical therapy's role in the nation's health care system.

This position collaborates with the director and the Editorial Board in the development, copyediting, and updating of clinical content for APTA’s clinician website portal (PTNow.org) to ensure that content is timely, credible, and valued by members.

  • Provides and oversees copyediting
  • Helps develop and manages solicitation, review, and update procedures
  • Works directly with authors, editors, and reviewers in the revision and updating of content
  • Establishes content expert teams to set directions and develop content for selected areas of the website
  • Serves as liaison between external editors and Web Services team for video production and caption editing

 


Qualifications
 

  • 4+ years’ experience in medical or health care communications, including researching, writing, and editing
  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, English, Communications or related field or equivalent related experience
  • Experience in publication production, including working with outside writers and editors
  • Excellent writing, editing, copyediting, and proofreading skills; familiarity with AMA style preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Strong computer/database experience required
  • Experience in manuscript acquisition and publication production for peer-reviewed medical/scientific publications preferred
