Candidates should be multimedia savvy and keenly interested in partnering with our magazine and website staff in assigned categories. This full-time position is based in our Connecticut headquarters and requires moderate travel.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare necessary sales and marketing materials, under the direction of the Executive Editor.

Project Management

  • Prepare contracts, p+ls, and tip sheets; research competing publications and products; assist with special projects (both print and digital) and import titles.
  • Provide editorial support, acquire content as assigned and develop products that successfully advance the department’s goals for list revenue, profit, and growth.
  • Identify and commission qualified authors and freelancers, work with them to develop the necessary materials as required for each product, and negotiate contract terms that meet divisional financial targets.
  • Develop and present proposal packages for consideration.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing staff to effectively position and market assigned titles, and develop necessary sales and marketing materials.

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with outside contractors, including authors and freelancers, and internally, with acquisitions, production, art, and marketing staffs, as well as with other internal departments.
  • Effectively manage authors and freelancers.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal media partners in the development of multimedia products.

  • B.A. degree
  • Strong writing and editing skills with 3+ years book editing experience, preferably in illustrated trade nonfiction (crafts, fiber arts, sewing, quilting, and gardening, home and lifestyle).
  • Proven flexible approach to working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both with in-house partners and outside freelancers.
  • Multi-media savvy with a strong desire to collaborate with other media partners.
