Education Nation is NBC News’ year-round initiative to engage the country in a solutions-focused conversation about the state of education in America. The initiative seeks to create a thoughtful, well-informed dialogue with policymakers, thought-leaders, educators, parents and the public, in pursuit of the shared goal of providing every American with an opportunity to achieve the best education in the world. By providing quality information to the public, NBC News hopes to provide information to Americans so they can make decisions about how best to improve our education system both in the near and long terms, and to shine a spotlight on one of the most urgent national issues of our time.


In September 2010, NBC News hosted the first Education Nation Summit in New York City, where parents, educators, and students met with leaders in politics, business and technology to explore the challenges and opportunities in education today. In the years that have followed, Education Nation has visited local communities across the country on the annual Education Nation Tour; developed a thriving online community; launched the award-winning “Learning Curve” blog; and NBC News has committed to in-depth education reporting across the network. The fourth annual Education Nation Summit will be held in New York City in October.


The Digital Manager will play a key role in managing Education Nation’s digital strategy and projects for the 2013 Summit. This is a full-time freelance position through October 2013.



·   Oversee creation and production of digital projects and webpages/content for 2013 Education Nation Summit; manage all deadlines to ensure on-time delivery

·   Serve as day-to-day liaison with external digital agency that supports

·   Work with editorial teams to generate and implement ideas for digital complements to Summit

·   Oversee editing and distribution of online video content during and after Summit

·   Develop social media strategies to drive community engagement

·   Manage external content partnerships



·   3-5 years of relevant experience

·   Superior project management skills

·   Knowledge of education issues a plus

·   Excellent communication skills

·   Understanding of social media platforms

·   Self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment


Eligibility Requirements:

·   Must be willing to work in New York City

·   Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
