The Managing Editor will work with the Journal of Public Policy (JPP) editors to receive submitted manuscripts, manage peer-review process, and prepare for publication including any special issues/supplements. Also act a liaison between JPP editors and the relevant teams at Cambridge University Press and USC.


  • Oversee peer-review process for sumitted manuscripts to ensure they meet the standards of the journal as set by the editors and Cambridge University Press. Track manuscripts and assist editors when needed to ensure timely reviews.
  • Communicate with authors on the status of their submissions.
  • Maintain and edit letters in ScholarOne system as needed.
  • Manage an electronic tracking system, ScholarOne, for all manuscripts submitted to the journal.
  • Work with the staff at Cambridge to resolve any issues related to the use of or updates to electronic manuscript tracking system.
  • Assist the Cambridge production team in obtaining signed copyright agreement forms from all authors and provide to Production supervisor.
  • Work with journal publisher to meet all deadlines for production of each issue.
  • Organize periodic conference calls and meetings of the journal editors and/or editorial board; take and distribute minutes for such calls or meetings.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and inquiries related to the journal.
  • Manage social media strategy for the journal ? including Twitter account and blog on WordPress.
  • Work with editors to ensure proper communication, and any notifications included in each issue of the journal.
  • Work with editors and Cambridge marketing staff to help develop and implement marketing for the journal.
  • Oversee journal website information, and communicate necessary updates to Cambridge staff.
  • Provide periodic updates to Cambridge and ScholarOne website related to the content or instructions for the journal.
  • Manage journal budget, process expense reimbursements and liaise with USC and Price School budget office.
  • Perform occasional journal administrative functions as requested by editors.


Minimum Education: Related undergraduate study
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months

Minimum Field of Expertise: General office with experience in writing, proofing and fact checking. Ability to prioritize multiple duties.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Experience: 1 year

Preferred Field of Expertise: Journalism, communications and public policy experience.
