Description:

Register-Herald Newspapers of Beckley, W.Va., is seeking an experienced editor for our top newsroom leadership position in the newsiest region of southern West Virginia. The person is responsible for producing quality news content for our seven-day, 22,000-circulation newspaper, two weeklies, award-winning magazines, other niche products and our growing digital platforms.

 

The editor needs a strong management background, versatile journalism skills (writing, editing, story-telling), print and digital experience, ability to coach reporters and editors, and be self-motivated and community-oriented. We prize local news, feature, sports and photo content in print and online. We serve print and online readers in seven counties.

 

The editor oversees a staff of 26 fulltime and 2 part-time journalists. The editor is a key member of the senior management team and has a voice in strategic initiatives undertaken by the company. The person needs to be able to communicate clearly and make smart decisions.

 

Beckley is the hub of southern West Virginia, located at the intersection of Interstates 77 and 64. The region is home to the new Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree and High Adventure Base, and the internationally-known Greenbrier resort hotel and golf course. It is considered an outdoor mecca, featuring whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking and ATV trails among other activities.
