The Program in Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks two full-time Instructors in Journalism, beginning on August 19, 2013.These positions are for at least two years, but depending on developments with CU’s planned college involving media, communication and information, it could be extended past two years. The normal instructor teaching load is six courses (three per semester). However, given the administrative duties included in both positions, the teaching load would be four courses (two per semester).


INSTRUCTOR FOR CU NEWS CORPS: In addition to teaching courses in journalism at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, our new colleague will supervise the CU News Corps. The News Corps is a practicum for advanced undergraduates and professional Master’s students in both long-term investigative reporting and in spot-news coverage of fast-breaking events, working in collaboration with Colorado media outlets. This colleague will also coordinate the dLab, which provides workshops for our students and faculty in emerging technologies for journalism.

INSTRUCTOR FOR CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISM: In addition to teaching courses in journalism at both the graduate and undergraduate levels including Reporting on the Environment, our new colleague will assist the Director of the Center for Environmental Journalism (CEJ) in supervising its activities, including the Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism Program, the student-run online magazine The Boulder Stand, and collaborations with campus units such as Environmental Studies and the new Environmental Sustainability Program at CU, now in the planning stages.

Applicants must have at least a BA or BS college degree

A minimum of five years professional experience

Demonstrated experience with electronic media (e.g., social media, digital storytelling, and multi-platform reporting)

 STARTING SALARY: $48,000 - $60,000 for nine month assignment. Supplemental income available for additional assignments during summer sessions.
