Position Characteristics: The Roger Tatarian Endowed Faculty Scholar in Journalism was established in honor of the former Fresno State professor and editor-in-chief of United Press International. The successful candidate will have a background and record of accomplishment in international reporting, a specialty that would have appeal for not only mass communication students but students from other disciplines including political science, history, sociology and the languages. Candidates with a background and record of accomplishment in computer-assisted investigative reporting also would be considered for the position. A national reputation in the news business and earned national and/or international journalism awards are desired. The successful candidate will teach two classes, one in advanced reporting and writing and one a seminar course designed by the candidate to reflect his or her expertise. The position will be available for one semester or a full academic year. The successful candidate also will create and coordinate at least one public symposium focusing on contemporary media issues; conduct department and campus-wide seminars in journalistic issues; work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department; and strengthen collaborative relationships with local media and other constituencies.

Academic Preparation:An earned master¿s degree is preferred, bachelor's degree is required.. A record of exceptional national and/or international professional journalism experience is required. Teaching Or Other Experience:Teaching experience on the college or university level is preferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students form diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Other Requirements:This position may require the satisfactory completion of a background check. This may include, submitting fingerprints to the LiveScan Print Services, and evidence of degree(s) and/or certification(s) at or prior to the appointment. California State University, Fresno publishes an Annual Safety and Security/Fire Safety Report in October. This report is provided in compliance with the 1998 Jeanne Clery Disclosure Act, and California Education Code section 67380. The report includes three calendar years of select campus crime statistics and it includes security policies and procedures for the campus.
