Description:

PUBLISHER AND EDITOR - The Forks Forum is seeking a versatile, self-starting publisher/editor.  The Forum is a rural weekly community newspaper located in the small town of Forks on the West End of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.

This is a rare opportunity to achieve your dreams of being a publisher/editor and running your own show — handling all aspects of an important and well-appreciated community asset, from informing readers to providing a cost-effective advertising platform for local businesses — and doing it in an area surrounded by misty river valleys, old-growth forest and unmatched wilderness beaches.

The  Forks Forum is part of Sound Publishing, the largest community newspaper publisher in Washington state.

Three-plus years of editing and reporting experience, along with leadership experience required. Newspaper website operation and posting experience a plus. Weekly responsibilities include ad sales, reporting, photography, web posting, editing, pagination, circulation, opinion page editorial writing, involvement in the local community, and cross-cultural involvement.

The scenic Forks region is the heart of the regional timber industry and also an environmental wonderland.  Forks also is the venue for the best-selling "Twilight" books and movies.

The region offers world-class salmon and steelhead river fishing, seasonal elk hunting, mountain and coastal hiking in the rain forests of the Olympic National Park, surfing and summertime beach going. Vancouver Island, British Columbia is a ferry ride away to the north; Seattle is about 4 hours to the east. The reservations of the Quileute, Hoh and Makah coastal tribes are within the coverage area. Benefits include medical, dental, life, paid holidays, vacation and sick and 401k.  Send resume, clips and letter of interest including salary requirements to hr@soundpublishing.com or by mail to Sound Publishing, Inc., Forks/ED-PUB/HR Dept., 19351 8th Avenue NE, Suite 106, Poulsbo, WA  98370.
