Description:

This is a unique opportunity to join a media leader that is combining cutting edge digital with a standard for journalistic excellence proven over 163 years. You will be part of an exciting initiative to take us even further into the digital space, but also join a team that already has solid multimedia savvy. While we value experience, talent is the pivotal factor, and we are proactive about professional development, whether you are a 10-year veteran or just starting your journalistic career. One way or the other, you will report on a variety of topics, including maintaining live blogs, tweeting, shooting video and otherwise engaging audiences across multiple platforms.

Portland is often named to lists of best places to live (#5 on Business Week's 2012 list, for example) and lists of America's greenest cities (#1 on Mother Nature Network's 2013 ranking). The city offers something for just about everyone, from myriad microbreweries and coffee roasters to the lively and offbeat club scene to the area's natural beauty.

Experience as a journalist is strongly preferred, but if you can show us some writing samples that have the "wow" factor, we want to hear from you! To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • A solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure, and the ability to utilize a broad set of tools to tell stories and engage the audience/
  • Mastery of social media and digital interaction; the ideal candidate will have experience using social media to source and promote content.
  • The ability to build, maintain and engage an active audience; experience doing so is a plus.
  • The ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Experience taking photos and recording audio and video, along with the ability to edit audio and video.
  • The ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from its competitors.
  • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) practices.
  • An understanding of the imperatives of multiple platforms, including print, mobile, Internet, etc.
