Description:

    The Herald Journal, a 15,000-circulation daily in Logan, Utah, has an opening for a general assignment/governmental news beat reporter.
    Applicants should have a journalism degree and/or practical experience at a daily newspaper and knowledge in social media, breaking news and web posting.
    This job includes everything from covering complex governmental issues to writing soft news features. Reporters at the HJ write between eight and 10 stories a week and juggle multiple projects at one time. Candidates should be self-motivated, deadline oriented and enthusiastic about finding good news stories.
    The position includes medical insurance, a 401(k) plan, vacation time and other benefits. Hours are daytime Monday through Friday, but the reporter is expected to occasionally cover night meetings and rotate weekend responsibilities. Salary is entry level.
    Logan is nestled in Cache Valley, a scenic metropolitan area in Northern Utah. It’s home to Utah State University, several international scientific companies and miles of rural farmland. Logan is located 80 miles from Salt Lake City and just minutes from national forests and canyons.
