Description:

The Digital Video Producer produces live and on demand video for the Video Production Center. They are responsible for determining the video content produced each day by the VIdeo Production Center and supervising, assigning and managing the daily work of both Video Editors and the Associate Digital Video Producers as well as overseeing the end product. They will ensure that all coverage is technically and editorially sound. They also are responsible for checking and approving text for the video team to ensure proper grammar, spelling and accuracy.

The DVP will produce video content, both live and on demand. This includes generating story ideas, assigning others to cover stories, producing packages covering news of the day, special and recurring features, repackaging existing content, writing scripts or producing orginal story ideas. The DVP will supervise other VPC team members to ensure the timely and effective production and publishing of video packages across Gannett's network of websites. He/She will coordinate with the Gannett Desk, local television stations and newspapers to determine what content is available each day, determine the daily schedule and priorities for live streaming and monitor for content live and tape delayed video from Gannett sources.

This position is also responsible for approving text copy. They will review headlines, descriptions, blogs and other text produced by the VPC team for factual accuracy, sourcing, balance, libel, tone, errors in grammar/spelling/style. They will ensure that content is up to date and accurate and editorially sound. They will assign writers and other staff members to integrate video into storytelling across the Gannett network. They will work with VPC management and staff to determine priorities and provide editorial guidance.

The DVP must be a self starter who is comfortable working in a constantly changing news environment. They must have strong editorial judgment and demonstrated experience handling breaking news under deadline pressure.     

The DVP will:

  • Make assignments, supervise work and participate in performance reviews of VPC staff;
  • Coordinate coverage with National Desk managers and leadership of Gannett's properties (USAT, USCP, Broadcast);
  • Determine daily live and on demand video coverage to be sure VPC is distributing best content across Gannett's properties, make editorial decisions on video content;
  • supervise and Produce Live coverage
  • Generate story ideas, assign and supervise production of video content.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or Liberal Arts
  • 5-7 years professional experience, at least 1-2 years as a Producer
  • Experience with MS office Suite
  • AP/ENPS, BitCentral products (Oasis, Precis, Create), Grass Valley Edius (or other non-linear editing software)
