Associate Editor


Risk and Insurance® is seeking an Associate Editor to write and edit features and news stories for this industry leading trade publication and its ancillary websites. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to work with a staff of editors and writers to produce high quality business journalism content. Business writing and editing experience is a plus, with consideration given to experience in writing about risk management and insurance. The Associate Editor will need to be a prolific writer and story idea generator who is also a sharp-eyed copy editor with a passion for accuracy.


Job Responsibilities:


- Write monthly magazine features and cover stories and weekly news analysis stories

- Compile, process, and oversee supplements and departmental features

- Conduct investigative reporting and extensive business research, with a focus on trends in the field of commercial insurance and risk management

- Assist in the judging of the various Risk and Insurance® awards programs

- Generate story ideas, and edit and proofread copy

- Use social media outlets to expand Risk and Insurance’s web and print content  production

- Some travel and overnight stay


Minimum Requirements:


- Minimum 3 years experience as a business journalist

- Bachelor's degree

- Proven effective writing, reporting, and editing skills

- Understanding of journalistic and professional ethics

- Knowledge of and adherence to AP Style

- Effective communication, time management, phone, and interview skills

Staff Writer


Risk & Insurance® is the leading business magazine for senior risk management leaders. It is read by more than 70,000 chief risk officers, vice presidents and directors at primarily large, multinational insurance companies and Fortune 500 companies. The staff writer must have proven writing skills with samples of published works in magazines and/or newspapers. Business writing experience would be a plus. Candidates must be able to juggle editorial projects, conduct in-depth interviews with top-level business leaders, write features for each issue of the monthly magazine and weekly news pieces for the magazine's website, compile industry listings and announcements, and work with sales and production staffs on special advertising supplements. Some travel is required.


Minimum Requirements:


- Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience

- Candidate must have familiarity with Internet research and word processing

- Candidate must have proven interviewing skills

- Ability to travel occasionally


Preferred Qualifications:


- College degree in journalism or related field

- Published works about business and/or risk management and insurance

- InDesign experience is desirable
