Web Editor/Producer – Care2 Causes

We have an opening for an enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented Web Editor/Producer. Responsibilities include working with our authors/bloggers and content partners, developing and assigning story ideas, responding to pitches, editing and posting content, selecting and posting images, and monitoring interactive features. You will also help drive the growth and engagement of our vibrant, active online community.

 

You must have experience working with content management systems, be skilled at tackling multiple projects at once, and be able to work well independently as well as collaboratively. The candidate must also have interest in and knowledge of our key content areas – animal rights, environment, progressive politics, food policy, women’s rights and LGBT rights.

 

Key responsibilities:

·      Develop and assign story ideas.

·      Field story pitches.

·      Post articles and images in content management system.

·      Copy-edit/proof articles.  Create compelling titles and ledes.

·      Select and edit compelling images.

·      Select and implement links to Care2 content relevant to the new post.

·      Compile weekly and monthly statistics. 

·      Manage bloggers and editorial partners.

·      Utilize social media tools. 

·      Create HTML coding and meta-tags/meta-descriptions for search engine optimization. 

·      Create polls based on news, events, trends, seasonal items, and current hot topics.

 

Required skills and experience:

•   BA or BS in Journalism, English, Communications or similar field

•   Excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to accurately proofread spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.

•   Two to four years professional experience producing web content. Previous online experience essential. (Candidates with print-only experience will not be considered.)

•   Proficiency with blog administration tools, content management systems and various Web browsers both PC and Mac

•   Expertise with HTML and other web technologies.

•   Knowledge of online design principles; Photoshop proficiency.

•   Experience with search engine optimization techniques and meta-tags.

•   Experience developing story ideas, titles, and ledes to maximize traffic and sharing.

•   Familiarity with politics, news, current events, social justice and environmental issues.

•   Strong organizational skills; ability to multitask and prioritize time and workload.

•   Enjoys being part of a team and works well in a collaborative environment.

•   Ability and equipment to function remotely and collaborate across networks.

 

Compensation: Competitive; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Additional details:

Duration: Fulltime, permanent position.

Hours: 40 hrs per week, on site in Redwood Shores, CA.
