Job Description: The New York Times Editing Center in Gainesville, FL., is hiring a Copy Editor with an eye for art to work on the photo wire desk. The candidate will caption photos, graphics and illustrations from The New York Times and transmit them, via the wire service, to clients around the world. Experience on a daily publication or wire service is preferred, but we will consider a strong entry-level candidate.

Responsibilities: This operation is very fast-paced and is staffed 7 days a week. The ideal candidate must be willing to work nights, weekends and some holidays. He or she must also have strong news judgment, excellent copy editing skills, the ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline pressure, and an interest in photojournalism. He or she must also be self-directed.


·   Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred

·   Newspaper or wire service experience

·   Photoshop skills a plus

·   A passion for news and a sense of urgency

·   Strong copy editing skills and a grasp of AP style.
