Description:

The Merced Sun-Star, a McClatchy daily and one of the best of its size in the country, is looking for an ambitious and talented reporter to join our award-winning newsroom team.  The Sun-Star is looking for a reporter who has strong basic writing skills, knows how to put a story together and takes direction well.  The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment, pitching in wherever needed and supporting co-workers whenever possible.  We desire at least one year daily newspaper experience.  Fluency in Spanish is desired but not required. 

The City and county of Merced-located in the San Joaquin Valley and within a few hours of Yosemite, San Franciso and Monterey-comprise a strong news coverage area.  Politics, growth, a new university, the environment-our reporters cover it all and are often rewarded with invitations to bigger newspapers throughout the McClatchy chain and elsewhere.  The Sun-Star has won national awards and been recognized as a top newspaper for its size in California again this year.  There is also a fierce commitment to online jounrnalism.
