Investigative Reporter The Phoenix-based Goldwater Institute, hailed by George Will as “America's most potent advocate of limited government,” seeks an experienced Investigative Reporter to complement its award-winning policy and litigation work. The investigative reporter position will work to uncover wasteful spending at all levels of government; expose wrong-doing and public corruption; share information with mainstream and new media journalists; and produce well-written, timely reports of investigation findings. The reporter will be expected to creatively use audio and video, in addition to producing written reports. In addition to longer term projects, the reporter will also be expected to produce quick turn-around stories when required by breaking news events. The successful candidate will meet the highest professional standards as laid out by the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists. Qualified candidates will have some previous experience with investigative journalism (print, radio, or TV); a demonstrated knowledge of investigator’s tools like public records requests; outstanding writing skills; and the ability to develop sources. Candidate must be a creative storyteller able to breakdown complicated information and details into easily understood stories and be able to pursue multiple complex stories at the same time. Qualified candidates must be team players with a passion for looking out for the little guy. A track record of digging and uncovering stories that impacted public policy and experience producing content for a variety of mediums is a plus. Some travel required.
