Description:

The News & Observer Publishing Co. is seeking a talented, experienced, well-rounded editor who is committed to community journalism to lead the staff of two bi-weekly newspapers that cover Midtown Raleigh, North Raleigh and Wake Forest. The editor will use strong organizational and planning skills to work with staff, freelance and community contributors. He or she will apply news judgment to find community angles to national, regional and local issues and coordinate coverage with The News & Observer.

The job requires strong communication skills in multiple areas – as a manager, with colleagues, readers and community  members – as well as the capacity to represent the two publications in a professional manner in the community.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, and at least five years experience at a daily or community newspaper, or equivalent. Strong interest in and knowledge of community  journalism. Ability to work on deadline, organize projects, multi task and work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should have expertise with editorial production software and an aptitude for and interest in mastering new applications. Basic photography skills preferred.
