This unique leadership position offers you the opportunity to play a key role in the development and distribution of topical news and content and join a forward-looking media company in the midst of an exciting transformational change in journalism. As Managing Editor, Baton Rouge, you will oversee a team of reporters covering breaking news, enterprise, politics, entertainment and events throughout the capital city. This is an entrepreneurial effort to significantly expand our footprint in a growing and vibrant city that offers a journalistically compelling mix of state and local politics, major college sports and breaking news. You will step in as a main player in growing this digitally-focused coverage effort. If you're ready to use your depth of reporting and editing experience in a new and exciting venture while leading an experienced and talented team of journalists, we look forward to hearing from you.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in breaking news, aggregation and web audience engagement in a highly competitive environment. Additionally, to be a good fit for this opportunity, you will need to have:
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in developing and directing web-related projects/programs. Some experience with political reporting and editing is preferred.
  • At least three to five years of management and/or team leadership experience.
  • Mastery of social media and digital interaction, including experience working with video and social networking functionality/technology.
  • Successful experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A solid track record of successfully developing projects through launch.
  • An understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure.
  • Experience creating interactive metrics reports and analyzing their implications.
