ACDA National Office Staff Position Opening

Publications Editor

Location: Oklahoma City, OK  

Reporting Relationship: ACDA Executive Director  

Salary and Benefits: Professional

Position Description 

The Publications Editor is a full-time position in the ACDA National Office, working directly with the Executive Director in Oklahoma City, OK.

This individual will: • oversee and edit the Choral Journal, which includes communicating and working with its managing editor, editorial board, graphics personnel, industry representatives, and publication press; • have editorial involvement with the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing, which includes communicating and working with its editor, advisory board, and Web site personnel; • have editorial involvement with ChorTeach, which includes communicating and working with its editor; • edit the ACDA Web site, , which includes communicating and working with designated ACDA staff members; and  • edit future ACDA monographs and other ACDA publications.

Association Background

Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association is a nonprofit music-education organization whose mission is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

Qualifications

In light of these responsibilities, the successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and/or skills in: •  Chicago Style Manual writing guidelines; •  current  editing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word Tracking and Acrobat Pro); •  editing skills (e.g., language and editing symbols); • the nature and language apropos to electronic publications; •  the publication process and rules and language that govern that process; •  appropriate copyright rules and regulations.

Educational Qualifications

The successful candidate will have: 

•  the appropriate education, training, and successful experience for this position;  •  training and experience in print and electronic publishing;  •  master’s degree in music (preferable), journalism, and/or English.

Personal Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

An entrepreneurial spirit and approach to tasks; Outgoing personality and strong communication skills; Ability to self-start and manage multiple projects simultaneously; Reputation for being energetic, personable, trustworthy, transparent, and innovative; and • a demonstrated successful interpersonal working relationship with administrators, co-workers, industry representatives, and a volunteer membership association.
