Managing Editor, Print Edition
Feast Magazine

Feast's Managing Editor, Print Edition is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the magazine. As managing editor of this award-winning monthly magazine, this person has responsibility for all aspects of the quality and accuracy of our published material. The managing editor coordinates publication efforts, making sure our contributors work together as a cohesive unit, overseeing quality, nurturing the brand and driving innovative content. Feast's managing editor collaborates with the publisher, the art director and the digital managing editor to usher content development from initial idea to the printed page, adhering to a set budget and all deadlines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and coordinate the publication process;
  • Develop and curate content for the print magazine, coordinate with digital managing editor to ensure connection between all publishing platforms;
  • Stay on top of what's current in the local scene and keep abreast of national culinary trends;
  • Edit monthly print copy for content and accuracy;
  • Hire, manage and supervise freelance writers, fact checkers and proof readers;
  • Oversee the preparation and management of the freelance budget;
  • Create marketing and promotional materials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or related field and two years of experience in culinary/lifestyle magazine editing or management OR six years of progressively responsible experience in culinary/lifestyle journalism.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understanding of and experience in magazine publishing;
  • Passion for the food scene and a hands-on understanding of cooking and baking;
  • People, organizational and managerial skills;
  • Command of editorial best practices and AP style;
  • Working knowledge of InDesign, Word, InCopy and the ability to work within a CMS;
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices;
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.

COMPENSATION

Nationally competitive salary with a choice of three medical plans, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, generous vacation policy. Relocation costs will not be reimbursed.
